English translation of Nygammelt article as transcribed by Boris Borgstrom:
|
In Nygammelt No1. 2005 we find a presentation of a CD "Beneath the Stars", featuring the canadian accordionist Mark Roberts. We have now had the opportunity to hear it and let us say at once: Mark Roberts is an excellent musician. He has an elegant technique and a pleasing style. He offers several of his own compositions, and the first one of the 20 tunes on this CD is called "It's Polka time". Here we also hear Mark Roberts as a vocalist. Others are:
All of these have been composed and arranged by Mark Roberts. Mark Roberts also feature several tunes by his former teacher Boris Borgstrom, and the first one of those is called "Meisha" waltz. The rest of them are:
Boris Borgstrom's fatheer, Ernst Borgstrom, known from the legedary swedish/danish duo - Gellin & Borgstrom, who was popular in the 1920's and 1930's, is represented with the "Red and White" march, which is arranged by the son. He also arranged the last number on the CDwhich is the well known DF by ZC. All these are well performed and the arrangements are humerous and interesting. We are presented with varied registration on the accordion and a great exchange between the accordion and several other instruments such as etc etc, plus guitar and drum accomp., but we get the impression that MIDI with sampled instruments has been utilized. All in all, (unknown word) it very well, so that this CD in short is of high quality. |
